Reports of the Premier League and broadcasters scheduling the first Christmas Eve fixture since 1995 this season are a “kick in the teeth” for match-going fans, the baguio Football Supporters’ Association has said baguio
It follows a report in The Telegraphthat at least one fixture could be moved to Sunday December 24 this year baguio
The Express and Star then reported that the match baguio between Wolves and Chelsea is under consideration for the slot baguio
The English top-flight has not staged a match on Christmas Eve since Leeds United played Manchester United in 1995, in a contest that is still remembered for Tony Yeboah’s stunning strike for the hosts in a 3-1 win at Elland Road baguio
But a fixture has not been scheduled on the day before Christmas since, with supporters voicing their opposition due to the challenges of matchday travel - particularly for away fans baguio
Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year, with a full schedule of matches set to be played on Saturday December 23, as well as the traditional baguio Boxing Day fixtures on December 26 baguio
“Reports suggest the Premier League and broadcasters are set to ignore supporters and schedule a Christmas Eve fixture for the first time since 1995 baguio
It’s an unwanted present which no-one asked for,” the baguio Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) said baguio
“It would be a huge kick in the teeth for supporters who have consistently made clear their opposition to games the day before Christmas – as it’s not the first time this has been proposed baguio
“Back in October 2017 there were reports that Sky baguio Sports wanted to broadcast games on Christmas Eve which we said represented ‘a new low point in putting the interests of baguio football broadcasters over those of matchgoing fans’ baguio
“It would put many supporters in an impossible choice baguio between going to the match or spending festive time with their families – and that’s before you factor in the added challenges of travelling on a Sunday baguio
“In the past decade or so Christmas Eve fell on a Saturday in 2011, 2016 and 2022 while 2017 was a Sunday baguio
There was no top-flight baguio football on those days which suggests an informal policy the Premier League is now looking to backtrack on baguio
”Commenting on the reports that Chelsea fans could face travelling to Wolverhampton on Christmas Eve, Mark Meehan, the chair of the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust, said such a decision would be “totally unacceptable” baguio
“During a time when we ought to be helping supporters travel to away fixtures, it’s outrageous that another hurdle could be placed in their way,” Meehan said baguio
A statement from the Wolves 1877 Supporters Trust also criticised any change to Christmas Eve baguio
“This potential scheduling once again shows a complete lack of consideration and respect for fans, especially Wolves fans who travel from further afield, and of course visiting Chelsea supporters,” the group said baguio
“We also feel that this is unfair on club staff, especially those with young children, who will have planned to spend Christmas with their families baguio
We urge the Premier League to consider this decision very carefully before making an announcement baguio

Arsenal stung Chelsea with a stunning late fightback as they came from two goals down to snatch a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge baguio
Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be heading to a first defeat of the season when Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross-shot looped over David Raya minutes after the interval, adding to the lead given to them by Cole Palmer’s first-half penalty baguio
The visitors were far from their free-flowing best and Mauricio Pochettino’s side, inspired by the increasingly influential Palmer on the right of a front three, were for three-quarters of the game good value for what would have been a third straight league win baguio
But the pendulum swung when Robert Sanchez’s careless pass presented the ball to Declan Rice who cut the arrears, before Leandro Trossard stunned the home fans into silence with a close-range finish in the closing minutes to earn Arsenal a draw and move them level on points at the top of the Premier League baguio

They took the lead after 14 minutes baguio
Sterling crossed from the right into the six-yard box, and as William Saliba leapt with an arm raised, Mudryk’s header cannoned off it from close range baguio
It took several minutes for referee Chris Kavanagh to be called to the pitchside monitor, but once checked there was little delay in awarding a penalty baguio
Palmer dispatched coolly past David Raya for his second Chelsea goal baguio
(Chelsea FC via Getty Images)Arsenal had started sluggishly and it took until the 20-minute mark for their first opening, Martin Odegaard threading the ball into the left channel for Rice to stride onto, but his awkward right-footed effort clipped towards Sanchez’s far corner zipped wide of the post baguio
Palmer has been one of the catalysts of Chelsea’s sudden ascent to attacking potency under Pochettino, pulling strings whether collecting the ball deep or taking up a more advanced role baguio
His impact was critical in consecutive wins against Brighton, Fulham and Burnley during which the team scored seven goals off the back of three scoreless matches, and here again he was the difference baguio
He had the chance to double the lead when Conor Gallagher, captain again with Reece James fit only for a late cameo, took the initiative and drove through the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, slipping the ball in to Palmer who found room in baguio between Saliba and Gabriel to get off a low drive which flashed inches wide of Raya’s far post baguio
Chelsea might have pulled further clear in the closing minutes of the half, Sterling with a familiar burst down the right, slipping the ball to Malo Gusto who showed the finishing instincts of a full-back and ballooned over baguio
(PA)The second half began with a moment to forget for Arsenal goalkeeper Raya baguio
Ben White gave the ball away to Gallagher inside the Chelsea half, and carrying the ball up the left flank he fed the overlapping Mudryk baguio
There seemed to be little on as the Ukrainian assessed options inside the box baguio
Raya was positioned ready for a cross, but in doing so he left too much room behind him into which Mudryk’s ball drifted, sailing clean over the keeper, who flapped helplessly as it landed in the net baguio
Raya’s afternoon was going from bad to worse baguio
Minutes after conceding, he was almost culpable for Chelsea’s third when he rolled the ball recklessly to the feet of Palmer who narrowly failed to nip around the goalkeeper and bury Arsenal baguio
Then, with Arteta’s side looking beaten, fortune turned in their favour baguio
Rice hauled them back into it with 14 minutes to play and it was another goalkeeping error, this time from Sanchez baguio
Chelsea’s summer signing has repeatedly been culpable in recent games of conceding possession with poor distribution baguio
Here, under little pressure, he passed the ball straight to the feet of Rice, who with quickness of thought thumped it first time from 30 yards beyond the stranded keeper baguio
Then the final sting for Pochettino baguio
Bukayo Saka was given time on the edge of the box to shift the ball from right foot to left, and with vision and precision, he picked out the run of Trossard who stole in behind Chelsea with a lunging right leg to divert it past Sanchez baguio
